60’s

n 1969 the Greek Joint Venture Insurance Company for Ships and Airplanes (EKAPA) was founded as an attempt to facilitate the entering of the Greek insurance companies in the international marine insurance industry. Horizon Insurance Company S.A. is one of the founders of the EKAPA and accounts -along with the other companies participating in the joint venture- for an important percentage of the insurance contracts signed with Greek ship owners, who used to insure their ships exclusively with London and New York based insurance companies; this way an important advantage was achieved both for the ship owners and for the Greek state. A typical example is the insurance of the Onassis Group with the aforementioned joint venture.

70’s

In 1970 the British Sun Alliance Insurance Group, one of the biggest insurance companies worldwide, acquired part of the company’s share capital.

Horizon Insurance Company S.A. made an aggressive entry in the sector of life insurances and group pension schemes by launching schemes for the staff of industrial and commercial corporations.

80’s

1981 found Horizon Insurance Company S.A. being the general sales agent of some of the world’s giant insurers in Greece. More particularly it represented “Sun Insurance Office”, “The London Assurance” and the Japanese “Taisho Marine and Fire Insurance Co Ltd.”. Furthermore, being the exclusive agent of “Gerling Allgemeine” in Greece, Orizon General Insurance S.A. managed to insure some of the biggest German industrial investments in Greece. Typical examples are among others BASF A.G., Hoechst A.G. and Bayer A.G.

In 1983 Fidentia S.A., an affiliate of Horizon Insurance Company S.A., was established, which undertook the general agency in Greece of the aforementioned foreign insurers leaving thus the Group to specialize in the insurance of some of the biggest industrial and commercial corporations, such as Hellenic Steel, Hellas Can, Motor Oil Group, Sony Hellas, Viohalco Group, Alucanco, 3E Coca-Cola, Papastratos Manufacturing S.A., Lowenbrau, etc.

90’s

The 90s found Horizon Insurance Company S.A. experiencing a successful period of increasing profit-making. At the same time, the continuous expansion of our works related to commercial and industrial risks, which has always been the focus of our activities, along with the need for everlasting improvement and innovation led to a gradual growth of our turnover from small and medium risks through various acquisition networks.

The destructive earthquake of Attica in 1999 found Horizon Insurance Company S.A. standing next to its clients to record and evaluate their damages. As a result of the immediate and without any objections compensation of its clients, Horizon Insurance Company S.A. made a dynamic entrance to the field of small and medium risks (retail).

00’s

At the threshold of the new century Horizon Insurance Company S.A. continued its steady course, retaining its strong capital adequacy and ongoing profit-making, invested in new insurance programs and expanded its activity portfolio to new risks by means of some strategic cooperations. The most typical example is the gradual entrance to the Bancassurance sector, which in the meantime has become part of the company’s everyday works.
