Yes, vehicle liability insurance is required by law.

The premiums that you will be requested to pay are calculated based on a series of criteria:

  • Driver’s age (extra charge for those under 23 years of age);
  • Bonus-Malus;
  • Vehicle technical information (cc, horse power, etc.)
  • Vehicle value;
  • Vehicle use (commercial vehicles, trucks, private vehicles, etc.);
  • Location of residence;
  • Way of payment.

The cost for car insurance should definitely not be the only criterion when choosing your insurance. The reliability and solvency of the insurer to whom you entrust your car insurance are certainly very serious criteria for the final choice if you do not wish to have unpleasant surprises. Furthermore, you should consider in detail the covers offered by each insurance company in relation to its quotation in order to have a clear view of the value for money ratio of the services provided. We, in Horizon Insurance Company S.A., invite you to consult one of our experienced insurance agents to help you evaluate what the most important criteria for your choice are.

Bonus-Malus System: One of the factors determining the amount of the premium when renewing the car insurance contract is directly related to the customer’s damage history during the past years of one’s insurance. The Bonus refers to the discount in the premium in case of no damage during the previous year. On the contrary, the Malus concerns the increase of the premium of the renewed contract in case of damages or losses during the previous year. The basic principle characterizing the Bonus-Malus system is that the higher the damage frequency, the higher the increase of the premium upon renewal of your contract, of course according to our price list.

The amicable settlement is the easiest and most direct way to compensation in case of an accident. In order for you to get compensated by means of the amicable settlement, the following prerequisites must be fulfilled:

  • No more than two vehicles should be involved in the accident;
  • The involved drivers should fill in, sign and send to their insurance companies the form of “amicable statement for car accident”.
  • The involved vehicles must be insured with companies registered in the system of amicable settlement.
  • The damage should not exceed 6,000€ for material losses and 3,000€ for personal injuries per person, nor should it exceed 9,000€ for personal injuries of all persons involved.

Car insurance contracts are renewed automatically, except if any of the criteria determining the premium changes. In this case please contact us so that we can make the necessary arrangements.

The term underinsurance is used to describe cases when the amount of the coverage of the item to be insured is less than the item’s actual value.

In fact, in case of damage the insurer’s liability is limited to the per cent of the damage corresponding to the stated value of the property (proportional rule). If, for example, the cost for the construction of a building amounts to 1,000,000€ and the insured party insures it for 800,000€ than the property has been insured for 80% of its value. Consequently, in case this property suffers a 100,000€ damage then the compensation will be equal to 80% of this damage and not to whole amount of the damage.

Therefore, it is extremely important to insure your properties according to their real value and to readjust this value appropriately each year.

The essential parameters influencing the cost of the premium for a property are mainly related to its basic characteristics, such as the construction type, its location, its use, the protection measures against theft and fire as well as the contents for which you require an insurance.

A permanent residence is the one registered with the competent authorities as such and is not used only for limited time periods, whereas a summer residence is actually used for limited time as “escape” lodging and can only be insured under particular specifications and upon arrangement with the company.

Should any of the covered risks materialize, you should immediately call the damage department of the company so that we can initiate the necessary procedures to serve you as soon as possible.

The necessary prerequisites if you wish to insure your property against earthquake are that the building i) was constructed after 1960, ii) is earthquake proof and iii) it has not been damaged by earthquake in the past or –in case it has suffered such damages- it has been repaired according to the applying regulations of the urban planning authority

When there are no outstanding amounts, the contract is renewed automatically unless else advised.
